Wednesday 11 January

Procession, funeral, informal pub gathering

11am – 12pm

Short procession with coffin in Marilyn’s local area of Shoreham-by-Sea, passing her favourite and most frequented places en route. 

11am: Meet at SOLD charity shop, 62 Somers Rd, (on the corner with the main High Street) Shoreham-By-Sea, BN43 5DB. Ends at Ginger & Dobbs, 31-32 East Street, Shoreham-by-Sea BN43 5ZD.

You are invited to wear colourful clothes with autumnal shades, and to bring a flower or greenery to place on the coffin.

Following the procession, her coffin will be taken to the crematorium in Brighton. 

1.30 – 2pm Short funeral service at Woodvale Crematorium, Lewes Road, Brighton BN2 3QB. (South Chapel)

There will be an internet live broadcast of the Chapel service with 28 day access to the recording afterwards.

2.15pm onwards Informal (uncatered) gathering at Downs Hotel Woodingdean, Warren Road, Brighton BN2 6BB.

Saturday 18 March

Memorial celebration

Speakers, photographic slideshow, films, food + beverages, socialising. Venue & time tbc. Event will be live-streamed / recorded.

The Memorial will coincide with the launch of the Marilyn Stafford FotoReportage Award 2023, facilitated by FotoDocument, and supported by Nikon UK. The FotoAward was very close to Marilyn’s heart in its support of female documentary photographers worldwide to tell solution-focused visual stories with positive impact.

Flowers are beautiful and welcome of course. There is also an opportunity to donate to FotoDocument to support the Marilyn Stafford FotoReportage Award, which will help to build its capacity while contributing to Marilyn’s legacy. Alternatively, you may wish to support Amnesty International, another cause very dear to Marilyn’s heart. Please select in the link below.
