International Perspectives: Ukraine and the Middle East
October 2 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
- £10.00 – £14.00 at Ropetackle Arts CentreA panel discussion with Luke Harding and Don McIntyre, chaired by Devika Bhat.
The conflicts in Ukraine and Israel/Gaza are the pre-occupying international concerns of recent times. Two experts in their field will talk about each conflict, exploring the similarities and differences between them and why they matter so much to Britain and its citizens.
Luke Harding is an award-winning journalist and author. His latest book is Invasion: Russia’s Bloody War and Ukraine’s Fight for Survival (2023). Don McIntyre is the former Jerusalem Bureau Chief of the Independent and author of Gaza: Preparing for Dawn (2018.) When approached for this event Don commented: “The last time Luke and I did anything together it was when we were both taken into custody by the Mahdi Army in Kufa, southern Iraq 20 years ago I’m assuming this will be a more congenial experience!”
The discussion will be chaired by Devika Bhat, deputy head of International News at The Guardian. As Luke is currently reporting directly from Ukraine it may be that he appears remotely.
This is a ‘Tackling the Issues’ event in partnership with Ropetackle and the University of Sussex
