Environment Day Summit

Sunday morning is an opportunity to visit a local community-based regeneration project. The afternoon has input and discussions encouraging community responses and citizen action.

New Salts Farm site of 70 acres has been purchased by Adur District Council for community-focused regeneration. Project leaders explain proposals and invite suggestions, along with expert input and poetic responses.

Plenary Session led by the President of Sussex Wildlife Trust.

Environment Day Summit: Citizens not Consumers

How to engineer change and strengthen resilience.

Session 1: Citizens: Jon Alexander discusses his book with broadcaster Jane Mote. He argues the ‘Consumer Story’ that has dominated society for the last eight decades is in collapse, but the ‘Citizen Story’ is rising in every aspect of society.

Session 2: Breakout groups with examples of community action on:

  • Renewable energy
  • Regenerative agriculture
  • Urban greening
  • Forest Gardens and Forest Schools
  • Respecting Water
  • Sussex Green Living

Session 3: Going Zero: author Kate Hughes shares her story of an ordinary family’s journey to a zero-waste and sustainable lifestyle. 

Session 4: Developing a New World View – Tony Whitbread

Plenary Session led by the President of Sussex Wildlife Trust.

Guided Walks: New Salts Farm

New Salts Farm site of 70 acres has been purchased by Adur District Council for community-focused regeneration. Project leaders explain proposals and invite suggestions, along with expert input and poetic responses.

Numbers are limited. On our website we signpost more projects to visit in the morning or before the day.
